From a twelve year old sailor to Mayor of Tamworth, P G King seemed destined for adventure, work and leadership.
Born in 1817 at Rosehill Cottage Parramatta, P G (as we have come to refer to him), was the son of Admiral Phillip Parker King and grandson of the third Governor of New South Wales, Philip Gidley King. After sailing with his father on the 'Adventure', mapping the coast of South America, he joined Captain Fitzroy, Charles Darwin and others on the 'Beagle' in 1832.
